Meta to Layoff 16,000 Workers Amid AI Focus
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is reportedly preparing large-scale layoffs that could impact 16,000 or more of its workforce as the company shifts to offset expensive AI infrastructure investments and boost efficiency through AI-assisted tools. If finalized, a 20% reduction would be Meta’s largest job cut since its late-2022 to early-2023 “year of efficiency” restructuring. Meta employed nearly 79,000 people as of December 31, per its latest filing. Previously, the company cut about 11,000 jobs (roughly 13% of staff) in November 2022 and announced another 10,000 reductions about four months later.
