628 Positions to Be Eliminated at Walgreen’s

Hundreds of employees are facing layoffs as one of America’s leading pharmacy chains, Walgreen’s, cuts costs under its new private equity ownership. In total, 628 positions will be eliminated with 159 employees impacted in Texas and 469 in Illinois. The cuts come months after Walgreens was taken private in August 2025 by Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm that has cut costs and closed hundreds of stores.
