New Jersey Losing 1,000 Jobs as Layoffs Surge

Several New Jersey employers announced in March plans to eliminate nearly 1,000 jobs across the state. In the first two months of 2026, employers reported that almost 4,000 positions could be lost this year — a 106% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Major March notices included:

  • Fiserv Solutions in Berkeley Heights: 118 positions to be cut, with layoffs occurring through May 31 per a March WARN filing.

  • JPMorgan Chase in Jersey City: the largest March notice, affecting 134 employees, effective June 20.

  • Novartis in East Hanover: plans to eliminate 114 positions between June 26 and Nov. 27.

  • UBS in Weehawken: will cut 103 positions between June 22 and June 24.

  • Labcorp in Raritan: plans to eliminate 83 positions between July 3 and July 17.

  • O.C.E.A.N. Inc. in Toms River: will cut 79 jobs effective July 1.

Three Parsippany firms also filed notices: Reckitt Benckiser will eliminate 62 positions between April 2 and Aug. 31, while RB Health and Mead Johnson will cut 14 and 18 positions, respectively, during that same period.

Other March filings included Heights University Hospital in Jersey City impacting 65 employees (effective March 16); OTB Hospitality in Paramus affecting 62 employees (effective April 13); Luna Foods and Joey’s Fine Foods in Newark jointly eliminating 61 positions (effective June 5); and Prudential in Newark cutting 54 jobs between May 7 and June 7.
